I ordered bacon and eggs and my son ordered country ham and eggs. Eggs came on scorched and meat came out tasting like it was spoiled. Bacon was served in a ball instead of strips! Even hash browns weren't cooked all the way. Owner was upset because I refused to pay for food I couldn't eat. Best thing on the menu was the coffee and Rootbeer. Place also needs a good cleaning. As a former waitress, I wouldnt work here or serve food like that.
Its Dan good food place it's a layed back place with good made to order food ...I had the sausage breakfast plate I'm stuffed so yummy
The Village Kitchen is a great place for breakfast or dinner. I have been here many times and it was always worth it. They have a breakfast special (shown in pic) that includes two eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast for only $3.99, a price that can't be beat. They often overcook the bacon a bit, and the coffee is mediocre, but you get what you pay for. The servers have always been super friendly to me, and I never feel rushed to leave, even though the food comes out quickly. I really like the french toast (more than the french toast sticks. I have tried both). They also have tasty burgers. One downside is that the bathrooms are accessed from the outside, which only really bothers me when it is cold out. All in all, this place has earned my continued patronage with nice service, good food for the price, and a comfortable local vibe.
Different owners! The food is not made from scratch. Pinto beans for from a can. Was not Southern coleslaw.
Pretty good food. Prices can be decent and they have specials through the week. I have had breakfast here and it was good and hot. Have had lunch here too with a hamburger and it was a pretty good size burger.
AWESOME place for breakfast. Wish we had a place like this back home in PA.
This place felt like home, the food was amazing. Thank you for such a great lunch!
This was about a month ago and I’m still upset. Hamburger steak was raw, small like a hamburger patty. I was sick the rest of the day and threw up the hamburger steak. Fries were undercooked and mashed potatoes tasted like they sat in the warmer all day. Service was terrible, owner was rude and our order was messed up 3 times. I had a take out order. I had to wait about 45 mins. Specifically, asked for a cup of steak sauce and the waitress didn’t give it to me. I had called about 5 times, so my order would be ready. When I went inside to place my order and I told the owner, he said it was because they were very busy and he only had 2 hours sleep. I thought, I would give it another try with new owners, but will not be back. I could not call or take the food back, because they close at 2 pm. 🙄🙄🙄
Great burgers
Mom and Pop diner.... pretty good food. A lil out dated building but all and all a good place to eat.
Good inexpensive diner food. Excellent service from waitress Julia.
Comfort food at its best!
Great to visit a restaurant that has been in operation for many years. Today we had a great breakfast in the Village Kitchen. Great memories. If you desire a good old family style country meal. You can't go wrong with the food and atmosphere of this place. Takes me back to times forgotten.
Clean. Catfish was good. Didn't care much for the pinto beans tho.
Great Cookeville experience. Breakfast is inexpensive and filling. Love the kind service and friendly atmosphere.
Visited them when they were very short staffed after an emergency. Staff was friendly and helpful despite the circumstances. Food was good.
Great small town diner. Great prices with excellent quality food!!!
Absolutely Great! The Village Kitchen is an iconic family eatery in Cookeville since the 70's! The food is delicious, well-priced and the service is wonderful. Family owned and operated and they care about each and every customer who walks through their doors. I always tell everyone to stop in to the Village Kitchen and grab a bite. Everything on the menu is good you cant go wrong there's something for everyone! Thanks Walter! Your Friend, Sarah/Skyline Pub
I Love the cook Tim Warren has the bomb at cooking and the owner is a sweetheart
Down home food for a great price
Waitress was so rude and was over charged, a burger and half order of fries was $11& change wish I could give half a star!
I don't even want to give it 1 star. Worst breakfast we've ever had. My pancakes were so burned they smelled burned and were completely inedible. Tried to share my husband's less burned pancakes and they were just awful. The hashbrowns were so underdone they had barely any brown marks at all. The bacon was good but the menu said 3 pieces. They were cut in half to make 3 from 1 1/2 actual slices of bacon. We were 1 of 3 occupied tables with 2 waitstaff and a cook and the service was worse than the food. Once our food was delivered we never saw our waitress again. After 5 minutes with our plates stacked in a "I want my ticket" gesture we still had no ticket and finally went up to a register. Still took several minutes to get out ticket and leave. We should have left when one our waters was delivered in a dirty glass.
New restrooms, clean, great food ! Awesome staff !!
This a good place to go if you want the feel of a small, local diner. I've never had their breakfast, but they have a pretty wide selection of burgers with a few outrageous options like "The Bigfoot" which is a hamburger sandwiched between two grilled cheese sandwiches. It did not disappoint.
It was good nothing to write home about an would go again if I was in the area
Nice place, good food
Proportions were good. Food was average. Staff was great.
First visit breakfast deal $3.99 hard bacon no taste. 2nd visit everything was very good... nice comback!
Ate breakfast here and the food was amazing and so was the service. Definitely gonna be a regular place I eat from now on. I highly recommend this this restaurant
Food and coffee were just unpleasant, I have never had grits I didnt like, but these were so overcooked they were like glue. Eggs were overcooked and coffee tasted like soap. Bathrooms are straight-up nasty.
The food was terrible, service was even worse, and the whole facility was unclean. Don't waste your money!
Service was very good. Breakfast was perfect.
They have a Great hamburger! Very friendly staff. Try them out.
Always a delicious meal!
The food is freshly prepared and tastes great! The service is fast and friendly. Walter and his wife are good people and deliver a great dining experience.
The pancakes were burnt and the other items did not have much flavor. The omelet was cooked and then cheese and veggies were tossed in. The cheese was not melted and the veggies were not cooked. The coffee was thin. On a positive note, the waitress was a kick. She was very kind and sweet.
The food was decent but overpriced considering the size of the portions. Overall not pleased with the service or food.
Village Kitchen was fabulous! Great breakfast, great service (* Sabrina Rocks *), and a great owner! Walter runs a fine establishment!! Thank you Village Kitchen!!
Good small neighborhood place. Great breakfast specials and a meat and 3 at lunch Good prices
Nice little place that has comfort food. I had Breakfast and it was great. They include biscuits and gravy with their egg breakfasts. Really nice waitress with quick service. They do take credit cards.
Friendly, calm environment. We were greeted very quickly and our waitress was nice. The food was great, and it was decently priced. This was our first visit, but we will be visiting again!
It's the first time I've had the pleasure of eating here and I must say I loved it. Excellent, services and delicious food. Thanks for the hospitality
Good Food! Creative options on menu. I The Big Foot for lunch. The Garbage Can for breakfast (it's really good). Large portions.Friendly service. Home Town atmosphere. It gets my vote..
Great food, great service. Good old fashioned greasy-spoon diner. ❤️
Service was good, burgers were old-style greasy goodness. All potato dishes were good, the sidewinders were great.
Our New Sunday Option!Very few places open here on Sundays, we are thrilled to find a locally owned diner.Simple homemade food, at fair prices from great people.
The selection was great the service was good and the price is right. I suggest the Bigfoot, it's a cheeseburger with grilled cheese sandwichs as the bun. It was excellent.
Plain atmosphere. Decent, inexpensive food.
Love the food and small town service
The food was good, until I got food poisoning from it.
